About P.A.S.S.

Play Action Student-Athlete Society, Inc. (P.A.S.S.) began as an extension of the Junior Vikings Football Program, an amateur youth football and cheerleading organization. Since its inception 2000, the Junior Viking Football Program has served students with its foundational values of academic excellence, commitment, dedication, sportsmanship, teamwork, leadership, positive reinforcement, and—most of all—fun. Honoring its commitment to accept anyone who wants to participate, regardless of ability to pay, the Junior Viking Football Program began a scholarship program for families in need to access equipment and uniforms. In response to growing need to subsidize these costs, the organization formed a nonprofit organization, P.A.S.S., that received approved 501(c)(3) status in 2019.

P.A.S.S. has expanded beyond these initial scholarships and is now integral to the development of the adolescent children we serve. Our mission is to empower and equip student-athletes through:
  • Commitment to student-athlete empowerment and personal growth;
  • Development of student-athlete citizenship through academic and athletic programs; and
  • Community engagement and involvement.
P.A.S.S., Inc. is now led by a nine-member volunteer board of directors, which includes parents of participants.

Who We Serve

P.A.S.S. enables students to play sports and achieve academic goals while developing leadership skills, practicing sportsmanship, and having fun. We serve children in fifth through eighth grade within Creve Coeur and its surrounding communities. We currently serve approximately 150 children annually in our football, cheerleading, basketball, and track and field programs, and we plan to launch a new girls’ rowing program in the summer of 2020. As we continue to expand our work, we expect participation to grow as well.

We focus on serving children from low- to moderate-income economic circumstances. We believe that providing children from under-resourced backgrounds with education and youth development can positively impact their life trajectories, and in turn, positively impact our community.

Our Goals

We know that participation in extracurricular athletics and community-focused activities results in better academic performance among middle school students, particularly those in urban areas and those who are not engaged in other organized activities. Investment in youth sports can improve long-term outcomes for children who participate by valuing peer-to-peer relationships and observing positive behaviors exhibited by role models. We aim to capitalize on these connections by providing access to organized sports supported by a team of dedicated parents and coaches.

P.A.S.S. has the following goals for each of our student-athletes:

  • Learning the sport each child chooses to play;
  • Developing new physical and mental skills;
  • Making new friends;
  • Working cooperatively as a member of a team; and
  • Developing a high level of self-worth and appreciation of the community.
